Beca de la ABLS (Anderson & Crum Field Bryology Research Award) para apoyar estudiantes en su trabajo de campo

Anderson & Crum Field Bryology Research Award

The American Bryological and Lichenological Society (ABLS) is pleased to announce this year’s program to support student field work associated with bryological research.  This award is made possible by donations to the ABLS in honor of Lewis Anderson and Howard Crum, both of whom were committed to field-based research on the biology of bryophytes.

We anticipate 1 to 2 awards per year of up to $500 each in support of fieldwork by bryology students.  Funds are intended primarily to support travel to field sites but requests to cover other expenses critical to field work will be considered. Proposed fieldwork may focus on any area of bryological research including systematics, evolution, genetics, physiology, or ecology.  Awards are not provided for support of travel to meetings, symposia, or to visit herbaria, museums, or other institutions.

Proposals are due no later than 2 March (2015), and should be submitted by e-mail to Dr. Joseph Rohrer (JROHRER uwec.edu)

Proposals should include:
  • A brief cover letter stating the request and title of the project
  • A letter of support from the student’s graduate or undergraduate advisor
  • A curriculum vita for the applicant
  • A proposal, no more than one (2) single spaced pages (one inch margin, ≥ 11 point font), with the following information:  (A) Project Description, (B) Budget Justification.  The first page should provide the Project description and the second page the Budget Justification, including a statement about other funding sources for the project, and an explicit statement about additional support that would be necessary for completion of the study.

These four documents should be included in one compressed (“zipped”) folder.  Name the folder as follows:  LastName_A&Caward_Year  (for example, “Shaw_A&Caward_2014”)

Conditions for eligibility:
  • Applicant must be a member of the ABLS.  In the case of undergraduates who are not members of the ABLS, their faculty advisor must be a member.
  • Funds are to be used for expenses associated with fieldwork and cannot be used for laboratory expenses

Awardee(s) will be notified no later than 7 April of each year.
